30 Years Experience in Treating People Like Yourself
Expertise with a Deeply Therapeutic Massage Touch.
Like you, I want to feel good in everything I do. Whether it’s running, mountain biking, skiing, swimming, working, playing with my child, or just hanging out, we all deserve to be pain-free.
My Story:
My first “real” massage was in 1995 with Bill Musser, M.S, LMT, who was practicing in Eugene and later on went on to win the the National Teacher of the Year (2000) through AMTA. He was known for his deep tissue and specific injury treatment massages with desired results within the athletic community and beyond. After just one appointment, I was relieved of my headache but also had soreness that lasted about a week -reminiscent of a tough workout - relieving the tension in my neck, I never had another headache to that intensity since. I was thoroughly convinced by the effectiveness of his treatment… I was sold.
To quote Dr. Abelson, a former ART instructor:
“Think of ART as an effective tool in your toolbox—a tool that becomes even more effective when combined with other treatment modalities.”
Special Training:
Elevating the Skills of
Deep Tissue
In 2000, I had the privilege of participating in Bill Musser’s weekly workshops specializing in deep tissue by working the myofascial tissue, here in Bend, OR. My training with Bill was an invaluable experience, giving me a deep understanding of soft tissue and the complexities of deep tissue techniques. His expertise not only enriched my skills but also transformed how I approach massage therapy. By incorporating his methods into my practice, I’ve been able to help my clients achieve faster recovery and lasting results.
After years of refining my skills in deep tissue, I expanded my knowledge by seeking proficient, results-oriented techniques, ultimately discovering Active Release Technique (ART) with Michael Leahy. In 2003, I began incorporating specific movement-based protocols with ART which included targeting muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerve entrapments with remarkable results. Over the past 20 years, I have adapted these techniques to meet the unique needs of my clients. In using this highly effective modality with my clients, I was accused of "fixing them too quickly." I maintained my certification through 2022, achieving significant success in addressing various client issues.
Since then, I have laid aside the official title and have put my own unique spin on the technicalities of which ART was formed, which is now highlighted with functional massage techniques. I have adapted these techniques to meet the unique needs of my clients.
MOJO Courses with Dr Nickelston
During my intense training for triathlons from 2004 to 2007, I faced persistent challenges with sleep and struggled to take full, deep breaths and sought treatment focused on my diaphragm - I experienced temporary relief from these issues. In 2024, seeking a more lasting solution, I visited a practitioner for a comprehensive assessment. She identified that my vagus nerve was under significant stress and provided targeted care. The results were remarkable—my symptoms dissipated and were now understood. I felt revitalized. This transformative experience inspired me to dive deeper into vagus nerve health. I began studying under Dr. Perry Nickelston, a renowned expert known for his innovative approach to the body’s interconnected systems. His MOJO courses were exactly what I was looking for and which I completed several in 2024. These courses are influencing my practice, allowing me to address the body as a cohesive whole and help clients achieve balance and recovery.
